Default Hooking up a keyboard to a Tascam DP-02 FX/CD

Hi,

I am really keen on getting a Tascam DP-02 with cd burner (the whole recording package bundle on Musicians Friend) but can't find information anywhere about whether a regular keyboard that has MIDI in/outputs will work with it. I have a Yamaha PSR-E313. Or do you need a special keyboard? How do you connect it?

Does anyone think this may be a good option for someone who just wants to record piano and vocals? Or would the Boss BR900 be better?

Thanks

That looks like an audio recorder. So it can record the sound of your keyboard but wouldn't need any midi connections. You might use it in a midi setup with a computer but it doesn't look like it was designed for that so it would probably be a stretch.

I looked at both the tascam and boss web pages and neither one have a midi input connection, so it looks like it would would not be capable of using midi input signals from your keyboard.

They both have a midi out capability.

I don't own a hardisk recorder, so maybe someone who does can chime in and correct me.

Some workstations might have a midi in and out, same with a lot of FX boxes but that is used to send configuration data to/from the unit.

If you did find a workstation that recorded midi, it would have to be sent back to the keyboard to make sound unless it also has some sort of sound module in it.

I don't think I've ever seen any sort of stand alone workstation that records midi...
But I haven't seen everything.
