and this is where a mac has the upperhand with its macbooks and macbook pros (albeit a bit expensive) you do not need to upgrade because the audio card was designed specifically with audio/film recording/editing in mind. which is why its a bit more dear.

Sorry dude, but Mac sound cards were not designed specifically with film recording/editing in mind. In fact, they don't even do surround. How many films do you know that aren't in surround?

So, from what I read here, it's sounding like a desktop is overall preferable to a laptop. Which kinda sucks seeing that a laptop serves me so nicely for other purposes, but...
