BTW... Now that I finally have my recording gear on the way, it appears that the screen on my Korg was damaged in the flight from the U.S. and will hafta be replaced. Isn't that just jolly?? Looks like I'll have some time to screw around on Reaper and try to get it figureded out... *goes to download the manual*

[And yes... This follow-up post was in part an attempt to divert the possibility of heading toward religious debate. Guilty!!]

There are some things that just don't translate well in the purist humor world. Speech and gesture are part of the art that doesn't express well on-line. Dirty pick-up lines work best whispered into someones ear ?? Ya think ??

Really? I just imagine the dirty pick-up line being whispered into my ear (or whoever the hell's ear we're talking about here), throw in some of my own concocted material and it comes through pretty good.

But I can see what you're saying if you'd prefer to have things presented before you as a complete package deal as opposed to letting your imagination fill in the holes.

And I'm a smoking overly-energetic rainbow slut.

BTW, do you have any samples of your recordings laying around anywhere hereabouts? I figured it might be interesting to hear the work of the dude I got most o' my information from... but the mention of washboard usage in your sig is probably the main cause of my curiosity. lol

The washboard sucks. In reality(though), most of this is therapy for the nerves in my right side. I used to play drums long ago and "wipe-out" was a surf drum badge for beginning players. I worked on that yesterday and I just can't quite get the usage out of my right arm. The pick hand is fine for basic stuff nothing fancy. The picking is not to bad, but fancy strumming is spastic.

I've got a couple of guitar experiments on here and a MIDI dity, but nothing composed or performed. I'm trying to regain a level where I can perform.

I got a used mic this week for US20 - the Global Audion version of the GXL2400 - god, my vocals are spastic, too !!

Well, I didn't hear any spastic vox in there which is too bad--was kinda lookin' forward to those.

But your recordings are clear and the gee-tar sounds nice and big. Hope I can get mine to turn out as nicely.

The guitar was just an experiment to run the guitar into my sound card without being amplified. I used four of those "effects" I spoke of - one a amp simulator VST. The actual recording(the wave file) on my drive is just plain lousy fretwork with buzzing : )

It took me a while to realize that I had given-up the real effect of a amplifier vibrating a guitar and strings - like feedback, etc. But I realized, with better recording technique, that I could get some useful results without trying to MIC a amp.

So, that was just a clip to add to a discussion about recording direct vs MIC. The dancing around keyboard was a clip for when I was asking about keeping audio and MIDI signals in sync, and the other for a what PADs are(for) discussion. In all instances, the playing was just finding a sound and trying to play something that worked with the sound. I really want to peruse this flow of never heard or played before ( which is garbage, but I had never played it before). Doodling with a pencil, I suppose : )

I was originally just interested in MIDI recording - thinking I could pick-up a few beers on talent(less) night at the bar. Now, with recording audio, I'm having a gas with recording the stereo Kawai patches(good 3rd-party patches) along with the MIDI signal playing another virtual instrument in my DAW. Everything I have here is new to me 'cept the old Yamaha PSS that I learned MIDI on. I'm still filing frets on the guitars.

I fully expect you to be able to figure your DAW. Hopefully, one of your bandmates can "check the monitors" : )

Unfortunately, this is no longer an option as I'm flying solo now. I haven't even met any musicians in Japan yet! Ergo: Long hours of internet usage await.

Hoorah.

Hay !! No shit !! I'm now down by the mexican border. I suspect the only musicians around are the church organist and the school band. I'm not sure if I should be hangin' around the church, or the school !!
