Default EMU 0404 PCI + Dell XPS m1530?

Hi.

I wanted to get an EMU 0404 PCI soundcard to fix the latency issues with my midi controller and Ableton Live. However, I just realized I'm working on a laptop, Dell XPS m1530.

Could anyone tell me if I can install such a soundcard on my laptop? I'm not sure if my laptop has an extra PCI slot or what not.

Laptops don't have PCI slots.

You need the USB version.

Trade it in.

I actually had previously bought the EMU 0404 usb before but traded it in for a portastudio because I was getting latency problems with it.

I wanted to get a pci emu, because i couldnt get ASIO4ALL to freakin work on my computer. (the whole: "there is a meter moving but I get no sound problem")

The needle moving is often a sound card/driver conflict.

The only chance would be to find an adapter that will go from laptop express to pci. I've never seen such an animal but this site may have something Sewell Direct - USB, FireWire, DVI, HDMI, Serial, Parallel, Adapters, Cables and More

good luck....

It so happens I was looking around for Laptop express cards last night. newegg had a couple firewire cards that I noted as a possible step for my own purposes. My main box is all PCIe, and there isn't a lot that is affordable for that BUS, either.

Oh !! Getting back to your question - there should not be any MIDI latency issue. There may be latency in generating sound from the MIDI instructions, but that is audio processing.

The processing occurs before it's sent to the sound card, so don't look to a sound card for a solution.

This is what I meant about the needle moves, but no sound.
This what I see when I call up ASIO4All in my DAW.

If I have more than one sound device, the driver will always open two for output : )
