Hey, I finally got into some "home recorder" hardware with an E-MU 1616. I've read many things with E-Mu's patchmix on how hard it is to comprehend and managed to get working everything right as I wanted but there's still one thing that really bothers me, I can't achieve a similar effect to the "Record what you hear". I especially use this to send little samples of what I'm working on to the rest of my band through an instant messenger and I have to say that it's quite annoying now to have in my workflow the need to export every insignifiant bit I want to share. Anyone has any idea of how route things in the patchmix to get that? Thanks! |

You insert an ASIO send in the output section of patch mix. Usually that would be 1-2. Then in your software when you select that for an input for a track when you want to do a final mixdown. Unless your using cubase and use export audio mixdown. Patchmix is great but took some time for me to get the hang of it when you start reamping your guitar using an external modeler and digital loops and things. It can do anything, routing wise. One neat trick is to treat a stereo input as two mono ones. Then each one has its own stereo send. They're both the same but in cubase you can only use an input once in a setup. So if you have a stereo input setup as a external instrument, you couldn't turn around and use it as a source for an audio track, but with this setup you can - since you have two sends for each side. I was using an FX box as an external instrument in a S/Pdif loop but sometimes I would use the converters in the FXbox to record Vocals or guitar. I could do that without having to change the whole configuration in cubase everytime I wanted to do one or the other.

Yes patch mix has a high learning curve to me too. I don't know the answer to your question but try this link "Multimedia Production Forums • Index page" there's a bunch of stuff on patch mix routing I've found useful
