Id get the AKG C 451's if you can afford it. Really nice on acoustics too.

The SM81's sound great. I've used them to close mic HH and rides before. I'd still pick the AKG 451's though, just for overall performance on various sources.

Hahaha, your probably right.

but in answer to Brandon's question (even though it was a while ago), I'm an Aussie as well and over here we don't really have the big retailers you guys do. In my area at least, there are 4 or 5 music stores, two of which are part of a decent sized retail chain, the others - just privately owned stores.

Anyway's this basically means in Austrailia our gear is literally 2x the price it is in the states.

Which is why I'm super (or maybe even 'robo') pumped to be flying over to the US in september. One thing I've been meaning to ask on here, is: where do you guys recommend I go and blow all my cash?

What stores will give me the best deals on stuff I can take back in a suitcase? especially if I'm buying a bunch of gear at one time, who (if anyone) will be most likely to give me a discount?

I use guitar center a lot to check American prices on stuff and research gear, but it seems that you guys don't particularly like GC at all. why is that? and who do you buy your gear from?

My leg is getting singed from all this money in my pocket. Muuust noot speeeeennd..... Yet
