I'd make sure you have your acoustics and microphones all up and running before even thinking about caring about preamps.

that sounds up my alley but i have to use USB - i don't have a Texas Instuments chipset Firewire and my Dell quad-core desktop - supposedly bleeding edge - only has one PCI-slot that is currently taken up by the graphics card. gotta be USB unfortunately.

RME Fireface UC | Sweetwater.com
Is the FW part of the motherboard or is it a separate card?

well THAT's a different story. lol i always assumed any product with the word "fire" in it was a dead giveaway for firewire. ya learn something everyday. thanks for the tip.

I think you are at pretty low risk of having the firewire chipeset not work. The only reason they would have specified TI is because that's the only thing they really test it on themselves, so they don't want to guarantee that it will work with another firewire chipset. If it was built to firewire specs, it should work just fine.

Does anybody have one of these? Do you like it?

Second that. I have FF800 and the preamps see regular use even though I have a Millenia HV-3C and a Midas console. Use them tons on hand percussion.

EDIT: Good call, Husky, I didn't know about this piece. I'm sure it's the same high quality made in Germany as the FF800,.

It looks to be powerful as hell, looking at the back panel. You could still hook huge amounts of gear into it, if so inclined.

After reading about it on the RME site, I bet this thing really rocks!

I just got a wicked deal on a used Fireface 800 off ebay. I'm practically giddy over finally upgrading from my old Delta 44!
