Default Calling on Fireface 800 owners

I was checking out my bit statistics for my FF800 and it seems that when i have something plugged into channel 1 input ,the bit statistics shows only 22 bits in use. When i remove the input source it shows a full 24 bits. Also the levels in toal mix are slightly different with channel 1 (with source plugged in) im getting RMS readings of about 10 db lower.

I was just wondering if this is normal or has anyone else experienced a similar situation.

Thanks

Hmmm. That's very very interesting! Is this somehow dependent on the levels you are recording? On the hyper technical side I get ignorant in a hurry, but I was under the impression that the number of bits was entirely dependent on the amount of dynamic range of the signal. That's why you can take an ultra compressed modern metal production and drop it down to 8 bits without too much loss, but a classical piece sounds absolutely terrible with 8 bits.

Then again, I may be way off base here.

Brandon, you followin me around?

Sorry i should have posted. Problem solved by updating drivers.

Youve never been way off base and holding true again. It was said to me at one point that if the bit statistics were showing anything other than the norm, a bad converter was the probability.
