Default Bass trap speaker stand

Its seems highly recommended to have a bass trap behind or next to your monitors. but I don't have space for that.

I am busy building some speaker stands for my monitors (which will be on my desk..space again) and am wondering if incorporating a small bass trap into the stands would be of any value.

What do you think?

Right now, i would rather it didn't. I've spent the last few weeks building racks and things and then tearing them apart because I decided on other alternatives. So, pretty much sick of screwing around with DIY now, and would rather get some recordings done.

Anything to reduce resonance is worthwhile. Including the proverbial sand table with a granite slab.

Sand would be nice, but almost impossible to get in Taiwan. Hell..even the beaches don't have sand.

I've never heard of the granite thing. Wouldn't that be pretty reflective?

The speaker stands would only be about 12cm X 4cm X 6cm. Not much rockwool would fi in there, but I have seen some pretty small traps before.

Ha ! Yes, a finished surface can be reflective, but it don't vibrate so easy. As for sand, there are other particulate types - even kitty litter. Audio purist types usually spend a lifetime isolating individual components - particularly the turntable, and at the other end of the chain with the speakers. You simply touch things in the room to see what's vibrating.

Ooops..I take that back. I just realised how many studio photos I have seen with people using granite blocks as speaker stands. I thought it was just a budget thing..lol

That sounds like a good idea. Would just need to make a sturdy construction around it to keep it in place.

We have about 180 pounds of kitty-litter per side in our speaker stands.

They don't vibrate.....much.

I once helped a friend move a pair of old Wharfedale speakers. They were double walled and filled with sand. Damn heavy.

They had a plug where you could drain out the sand, but it was a hassle.
