Default Audio Interface For Mac

Hello Recording Review Sound Engineers!

I'm Mike from Indianapolis, Indiana and I've been recording my own material since the 80s on cheap four track recorders. Recently, I purchased a Macbook and have made wonderful recordings using Garageband 08, but I'm looking to upgrade to Logic Pro 8 and purchase an interface that can handle recording a full size band. I've always loved recording music and now I'm jumping into the craft full throttle hopefully to make a name for myself and help other bands get their music out.

Cheers,
Mike

Before going full tilt into Logic Pro 8, check out the less expensive Logic versions. I've noticed quite a few Logic users have claimed that the difference between them is minimal. I'm not a Logic user. I just wanted to help save you some money if possible.

What audio interfaces are you looking at?

Brandon

It's either Logic Pro 8 or Pro Tools M-Powered at this point. For interfaces, I've been looking at the Presonus FirePod and the M-Audio Firewire 1814. I'm currently just using a USB Alesis 4 channel mixer into Garageband 08 for capturing sound. I can't separate the channels into tracks and the USB connection produces a lot of static, so I'm connecting from the RCA outs into the line-in on my laptop. It's not exactly pro quality, but I'm making the best of my situation.

Brandon, first off, thanks for this great forum.

I think there used to be less of a difference between Express and the full Logic Studio. But now, as a Logic user, and someone who just upgraded from Logic 7 Express to Logic 8 Studio, I can give a big thumbs up to getting the full Logic 8. Even though it's more money, what you get in terms of additional software and a huge library of sounds makes it well worth it, IMHO.

I'm now running Logic 8 on a MacBook, and am also looking for an audio interface (to upgrade from the Firebox). The Firestudio Project looks great in terms of functionality, but I've seen lots of complaints regarding the lack of updated drivers. What does this mean to the user? It's still usable but lacks certain functionality? Thanks for any advice!

Both of these audio interfaces are excellent. I have a Presonus Firestudio and am very happy with it. M-Audio makes very good stuff as well.

Consider getting them here.
