There's literally boat-loads of external interfaces - both USB and Firewire - that are really nice... I use a Boss GS-10 with my Mac and my PC too, but if I didn't find this one on Ebay (they're out of production but amazing) I was going to purchase a Line 6 UX 1 or UX 2 - they get really nice reviews and come with Pod Farm - a really cool amp modeling software... I also have a Presonus INSPIRE firewire interface that also works sweet. I say READ A LOT OF REVIEWS and then figure out what you'll be needing input wise, etc. I think you'd really enjoy the Line 6 UX models. USB interfaces are not obsolete if you'll just be doing 1 or 2 inputs at a time - mine works flawlessly - as good as my Firewire - if you'll be doing a whole band at once, etc then firewire is the way to go as it can handle multiple inputs at the same time without bogging down as much.

The line6 UX 2 is pretty neat according to me. If u want a MIDI keyboard, then the Line6 KB37. They come with phantom power, and have 2 mic inputs / preamps, so you can do some neat stereo recording.

I recommend this M-Audio Fast Track Ultra for several reasons

M-AUDIO - Fast Track Ultra - High-speed 8 x 8 USB 2.0 Interface with MX Core DSP Technology

currently around US$330 on Ebay

Sounds like a simple 2-channel preamp interface would be good for your needs. Since you have some nice gear already, a guitar DI interface with virtual amps may not be what you are looking for.

A Tascam US144 worked well for me back in the day, was able to record guitars, vocals keyboards and other instruments, just not drums. But back then I have no clue about EZdrummer, BFD, StevenSlateDrums and how easy it was to program real-sounding drums.
