Default Anyyone Use An EDI Box?

I was shown by a friend who owns his music store, the Peavey PV6.
Link:Peavey.com :: PV Series

This is looking like what I want to use to record.
I can use my own amps and effects.

Now for the EDI Box.
It will let you record any of my amps without micing.
Just plug from the Speaker out on the amp, to Speaker in on the box.
Then you connect a mic cablefrom the box to the Mixer.
Whamo, nice, organic amp tone.
With this I can then use my own pedals or just go from amp to mixer.

What do ya'll think?

Could be good. Never used one.

PV6 is a generic Chinese lo-end mixer that could have anybody's name stamped on it: Alesis, Alto, Peavey, Behringer, whatever.

The idea of the EDI box sounds like a good one. could give you the best of both worlds when recording guitar. And it's only $50, which isn't much more than the cheapest DI box you can buy.

I'd say go for it if you have a nice amp already.

oh wait, does it give you the option to bypass the built in speaker sim? if not, I could see that as being kind of a pain if you don't like the one they provide.

That's what I'm thiking.
I could record with the amps I play all the time, as well as digitally mixing it all on the laptop.
With the board it's under $200.00.
I could also use my Black Box when I don't have time or just too lazy to set up.

Thanks

I think you bypass that when plugging in the mic from the box.
Why else use an EDI.
Good question and I could be wrong.

I was at a session at another studio and a guy had a Palmer amp simulator. I forgot what the guy paid for it, but I want to say it was like a grand. (I could be way off.) I thought it sounded okay but a bit weird.

You are ultimately gonna have to decide if YOU like it or not. We can all sit around and debate if this thing is as good as the "real" thing or whatever, but there are so many different situations that it's hard to say what is going to work with you.
