Default active studio monitors for home listening

I just bought a Yamaha as1000 2 channel amplifier for home listening. My speakers are stuffed from my previous amp which kinda broke. Anyway i was wondering if i bought active studio monitors (im looking at Dynaudio Bm15s) if i could use them with my Yamaha amplifier for home listening. Anyone know if i can do this ? will it sound ok?

If you hooked it up right (dont know the outputs of your amp) that could work okay. Might have to drive them from your receiver instead.
I would not do it in my living room. But that is just me.

Active monitors have their amp(s) build in, so to me it seems illogical (maybe even harmfull?!) to connect them to an amplifier (to the speaker outputs; a line out would be OK). But, hey, I am no technician...
You can however hook up your CD-player directly to the ins of the active monitors (watch your volumeknob...!). This is probably not going to be practical; many active monitors have a volume knob on each unit (maybe even placed on the back) so adjusting the volume is going to be a pain in the ass...

Dynaudio Bm15s are passive monitors.

Remember that they are near field monitors and sound best when used in close proximity to the listener and may not sound optimal if placed like standard stereo speakers.

+1

He said they were powered (active). How can they be passive?

Agree with the rest.

I did a little searching because I had not heard of that model and found this link: User-reviews: Dynaudio Acoustics BM15 - Audiofanzine

Dynaudio makes both passive and active versions of the BM15s the active models are BM15A.
If you purchased the active models you can hook them up to the preamp out of your Yamaha and they will work fine. You may not enjoy the sound as much as speakers designed for "home listening".
If you really have your mind set on the dynaudios why not get the passive versions? I'm sure the amps in the Yamaha are just as good or better than the D's, and you'll save some $.

I read somwehre that unless you know exactly what youre doing, matching up passive monitors with an amp to sound good together is difficult and your better off just getting the active models.
Id be using the speakers for monitoring mainly, i just want to know if i can use the dynaudio active monitors with my amp without damaging them unti l can afford to get some hifi speakers. And from what you guys have said it looks like i can, thanks for the info
I think the passive models are discontinued anyway

I would worry more about damaging your amp then the monitors.
Your Yamaha is rated for a 8 ohm load and the monitors are probably 4 ohms.

wait, no. you don't want to plug an amp output into a powered monitor, unless you are taking the line out of your receiver. So yes, you can use them with your reciever, but not the amp part of the receiver.
