Default Tangled In Wires!! Connection issue

Hey guys,
Im currently going insane lol... i can not set up my studio.. connection issues have had me up all night...

I love making music but i just dread connecting everything together

my pc broke so im trying to move everything over to my macbook.. going to use the focusrite as an external soundcard pretty much..

here is the list

Focusrite Saffire LE
Yamaha MG10/2mixer
Mackie Big Knob
Blue Mic.
Safe sound P1 preamp
M-audio mons
Pod Line 6
Yamaha motif es6

can someone break it all down for me.. like tell me where exactly to plug in the wires??.. i know this might take a little time but it would help me out a lot.. im completely lost..

oh an i definitely want to use my safe sound as the preamp

thanks!!!!!

What are you recording? Bands? Drums? Just yourself? That all comes in to play mostly with the mixer and monitoring possibilites.

First things first, the Mixer main outs go into the Saffire line inputs.

The Saffire outputs need to go to the Big Knob inputs, I'm pretty sure.

Big knob outputs to the monitors.

Mic into the preamp of course.

If you have to use the mixer then the Preamp outs go into the mixer line inputs.

Saffire Firewired to the laptop.

Keyboard and Guitars to the mixer.

I think you know all this. Just take it one cable at a time.

Be sure you actually need a mixer. If you have less then four inputs take it out of there.

Thanks!
I think i was over doing it lol.. i can hear my keyboard from my monitors and im loving it.. but im kind of confused about the balancing now.. im panning hard right on the keyboard.. then hard left... but im still getting sound coming from both monitors??

I like to record like this..
I'll make something on the keys.. record each track separately onto the comp.. add some guitar from the pod line 6.. then i'll then lay some vocals over it.. so im not sure if i need the mixer or not..

thanks once again!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was beyond frustrated lol

I'll check out the Saffire in a bit, but I think you can probably do without the mixer. It's just another place to degrade the signal path.

Do you have seperate outputs left and right from the keyboard? If it's one stereo output you will need a Y adapter.

i have a R 1/4 and a L 1/4 from my keyboard outs going into the mixer right now.

i dont know whats up with it.. for example, i noticed when i pan left on the keys... the led's on the mixer display only the left channel.. but on the mackie both led's are on..??

id love to do without the mixer!

Thanks a lot!
you've been such a help!!

Looking at the Saffire, you can get rid of the mixer if you are willing to keep the some of your 3 devices (Preamp, keyboard, POD) unplugged at a time.

You have two analog inputs available. That could be the preamp and the POD (assuming one output here), or the left and right of the keyboard. You also have two digital inputs, so IF your preamp (or POD?) has a digital output then that would be perfect.

You have tons of outputs with a software mixer for different output mixes, so actually you don't need the BIg Knob, although it may be esier to use. That wouldn't free up anythig anyway.

Also, you actually don't need the preamp for the micrphone . The Saffire is supposed to have good pre's.

Unless you and your buddies are using the keyboard, guitar, and microphone at the same time, I would take the mixer out.

As ar as left and right on the keyboard. Run them straight into the Safire adn verify that the keyboard and cables are working alright. If so, double check our connections and settings at the mixer.

Um, there are manulas for this stuff, right?

The monitor R + L go on the back outputs 1 and 2.

If you are using keyboard the right and left outputs go to the Saffire INPUTS LIne IN 1 and 2

I messed up - I didn't notice you have a SAFFIRE LE not the regular Saffire. This gives less input options, but if you don't care about plugginng stuff in...

When using mic it is plugged into the XLR input 1 or 2.

Plug in the POD on Line IN 1 or 2.
