i have a Audiobox USB (my preamp) hooked to my pc. My MXL condenser mic is hooked to the preamp. my computer recognizes the audiobox and i can talk into the mic and it plays on my speakers fine. the problem is that when I hit record on my recording program it only records through my crappy built in computer mic even tho im talking into my condenser mic and i can hear myself through the speakers. when i open my control panel it lists my audiobox for playback devices but only lists my built in mic for recording devices. this must be because my MXL mic isn't USB. so on my recording program there is no way to switch my recording device. Is there some way to over ride the gay built in mic and use my awesome new mic???

i have vista 32 bit. it wont work with 64 bit tho. a lot of interfaces wont cuz i guess its too new. but anyway i got it working. it wouldnt let me record through my condenser mic untill i plugged in some kind of speakers or headphones into it cuz it need some output.

Plug your headphones or speakers into your audiobox so you can hear what you're doing.
in your software (cubase LE 4?) make sure the Audio Box USB is the recording and playback device and you are using the ASIO driver.
make a audio track, set the input to audio box input 1 (or left if its called that) record enable (red circle) and monitor enable (speaker icon) when you speak into the mic you should be able to see movement on the meters.
Push the master record and play and start making music.
PS. I'm 100% sure the Audio box and Cubase LE have manuals. That you should be the first place to look for instructions on setting it up.

ps, to make things easier, disable the other soundcard in your computer and make the Audio box USB the default for windows.

Hi. I see that you have been able to get sound from your condenser mic. I just bought the MXL990 along with the audiobox USB mixer with 43V phantom power. I cannot get sound! I used the XLR cable with quarter inch plug and got nothing. Then got a XLR cable with the 3 pin connector on both ends and still get nothing. It seems I havethe correct voltage and cables. I just cannot hear anything from the speakers. I have tried with my PC, Laptop and regular amp and I get nothing. Any help would be great.
I'm not a pro at this art, but from what I've seen so far, not having your phantom power on doesn't mean you won't get any sound from the mic or the chain. It would only sound dull, soft and not the way it's supposed to sound, but there should still be a signal passing through and some sound coming.
I haven't used or even seen (for real, that is) an audiobox, and am not too experienced with recording and hardware, but a few things off the top of my head that you could look for are:
a) Have you installed the drivers properly? Right click 'My Computer', go into hardware and device manager to check if there's a little yellow mark next to the hardware.
b) If the driver is ok, then maybe plug the mic into it and try and listen through your headphones.
c) Is there a software that comes with this that needs to run at all times when using the device? For instance, my Line6 KB37 doesn't give me any sound of a guitar or mic unless i have 'Gearbox' or 'Pod Farm' or something of that sort open.
d) If none of these work, maybe put the gain really high, and see if the light next to it comes on. If you don't see any signal, then either the cable or the mic or the audio interface aren't working properly.
e) Try the mic and cable on a friend's interface. Also, could try any random electric guitar on your audiobox to see if that works.
f) If nothing works, take it back to your dealer (can't think of anything else while at work!)
Hope that helps!![]()
