Smile mastered sound very low from the boss1600cd

Hi I am new to recording and have been using boss 1600cd to try and make decent demos for live 6-piece band. However after recording bass, guitar and drums and making final mix-down I still am unable to get any sort of volume when I master and burn to cd. Any other 1600 users out there who can help. It really is a fantastic piece of kit.

Think back through your recording process: were the levels ok when you first did the tracks? You should aim for a full, punchy sound from bass and drums. Don't be afraid to get a high level...you can bring it down in the mix later (just don't distort the track, of course).
Sometimes, on these stand-alones, you need to pump the levels of the tracks a little higher than you might normally think appropriate; sometimes, also, you need to ride the master/stereo fader a little higher, too, when mixing down to stereo.
Of course, it could come down to other things like EQ and effects. This really depends on what you've got going at the time.

Thanks for your reply. Will try what you say however still trying to get to grips with the boss 1600 recorder and the dvd does not really go into volume much - does talk about EQ and all that stuff but how do you know what values to set at ?? Tried again with raising the recorded levels but just not happening for me. Really need to get in contact with other boss 1600c recorder users for their thoughts.

I use an 1100 for rough stuff. I have only "mastered anything in it a couple of times.

In the mastering edit windows you should be able to turn up output volume on the compressor section and let the limiter do it's job
