Default Importing tracks from portastudio?

I've been using a Boss Portastudio recorder and purchased Cakewalk's Sonar to use with it. I realize i could just get an interface and record direct via USB, but I LIKE using the portastudio. So. . .I'm having trouble connecting the Portastudio to the PC and importing tracks to Sonar. Do i need to get a MIDI cable to properly send stuff into the PC? The USB doesn't seem to do the trick. Does anybody out there use this same combination? Sonar should import .WAV files from the Portastudio no problem, right?

Any guidance or information for this sort of thing would be so appreciated.

Thank you.

It's always complex when combining standalone recorders with the computer world. It's almost always better to pick a format and stick with it.

I'd dig deeper to figure that one out because it's your best bet.

I'm no authority on this, but, from what I understand, the MIDI cable will not transfer audio data (e.g. live tracks and songs that you've recorded). I believe it's a medium for Midi data (signals) only.

If you have a USB2 connection from the machine to the computer, that's the way to go. You just need to find the way to allow one device to send the data, and the other device to receive it. Look on your Sonar program for functions such as import, load, anything to do with external devices (go to the "File" menu or "My Computer", for example)--sometimes an external device will show up like any other device such as a thumb(flash)-drive, and there may even be an icon you can use.

Sorry, this may be useless information.

I am completely sympathetic with your problem.

Good luck.
Chris.

This is correct (unless you are an electrical engineer with WAY too much free time).
