CF mods to the Zoom MRS-1608cd

First post here, I'm hoping this location will be fine for this discussion.

I've read a bit here and there about alternatives to finding an elusive UIB-02 card (meant to give the MRS-1608 USB connectivity to a computer). Since the cards are discontinued, creative folks have come up with a work around by replacing the existing HDD with a CF board that can be easily accessible from the slot meant for the UIB-02 card.

I don't want to replace my HDD, but would consider doing a swap out of the CDRW for a CF solution. Has anyone tried this solution for quickly getting projects off the MRS-1608? If so, was it a straight forward swap (with the right equipment of course) This solution should only cost about $27 plus S&H.
