Default Apogee A/D converter question

hi, for over a year, my apogee PSX-100 and 2480 have always locked (wordclock) automatically as the roland VS-2480 is booting up, but suddenly they aren't talking to each other. i use high quality coax (SPDIF) and BNC cables and changed the coax cable.

when i go into the 2480 "project parameter" and tick the "wordclock" box, i get a message, "wordclock in unlock. change to internal clock?" i can only select "enter", which switches to 2480's internal clock. i don't what to do next, i've tried everything i can think of.

has this ever happened to any of you before? thank you reading my post and for any experience you've had with this. kib

It sounds like the Roland isn't getting Wordclock anymore. Are you sending wordclock though S/PDIF or BNC? For S/PDIF stuff I don't use BNC.

If you are lucky, the problem is a configuration issue or a cable. If you aren't lucky, your Apogee may be having problems.

i use BNC from the wordclock out of the apogee to WC in on the roland. they just suddenly stopped locking and i am still trying to find out what the problem is. it's frustrating. the roland isn't getting wordclock. i tried using only SPDIF but it still wouldn't lock. thx again, kib

This stuff can be a major pain in the neck.

I'd double check to make sure all the settings on the master (Apogee) are what you want in terms of bit depth and sample rate. That can cause major problems. I know I've hit the wrong buttons on Mytek and had major issues in the past.

Unfortunately, it's tough to troubleshoot with just two devices. Maybe you could borrow something with a clock in it (I'm not sure what....other than another converter) to figure out if the problem is you Roland or the Apogee or just a cable.

Smile Re: Apogee A/D converter question

hi brandon,
thx again for your help. after 6 days, the problem is resolved. the apogee has 10 tiny dip switches and somehow, the W/C switch (unmarked) was in the wrong position. i never unplug cables in that rack, or go near the dip switches. you need a tiny flathead screwdriver to set them. i know i'm getting old but jeez... it will be an unsolved mystery. my cat has a suspicious look on his face right now... thx again! kib
