Default Alesis iMultimix 8 USB 2.0 driver problems help

Well im new to the whole recording thing. I reciently just got good at guitar and i thought it would have been a good idea to get a mixer to play/record with a band, so i bought the Alesis iMulitmix. So i get home and i see the package there laying by my door step and open it up like it was Christmas morning. I play around with it, try to get it to work and i did, i tested the Ipod recording and it worked like a charm BUT!! When i connected it to my Toshiba Satellite laptop with 32bit windows vista with 4gbs or ram, the pc automatically recognized and installed something... like the little pop up bubble thing you get on the bottom right saying that it has detected a new device and its installing it, well that popped up. Then i ran the cd that came with it and opened it up and clicked on the MultiMix USB 2.0 Mixer to install the driver and i allowed windows to run it and then i agreed to the terms and then i said to plug in the device if haven't done so ( i had already plugged it in), then it just went into a 5 minute loop trying to detect the device (imultimix). then after 5 minutes, it gave me this "Unfortunately the installation failed (ERROR: Timeout- 0x0005)" So.... at first i thought it was because of me plugging it before the installation, so i tried it different, and then again a different way, and then again mixed it up a little. Tried it on safe mode, with the device on and off, with a different cable, with the device upside down, crossing my fingers. Also tried it on a different pc.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Maybe turning the device on its side? haha. Or maybe a different way to route the device into FL Studios or Cubase? I tried ASIO4ALL but i can only get on side to get audio, like only the right, or left, never both. Oh and plus i can never get ASIO4ALL to give me a good lag free delay, like i would start with a no delay at first, but after 4 minutes of playing, ASIO4ALL will crap out and start lagging, and with random static noises. I wish there was simpler ways to record my damn guitar with better results.

Thank you!

Unhappy Re: Alesis iMultimix 8 USB 2.0 driver problems help

Hi

I have exactly the same problem except that there was no USB driver on my disc. So I downloaded the driver from Alesis. When I ran it I got exactly the same result, it timed out with the error message (Error Timeout - 0X0005.

I'm running Vista Ultimate service pack 2 and I've tride every combination of compatability mode and running it as Administrator but nothing works, just the same time out message.

If anyone has overcome this problem I love to hear from them

Same here fellas, I love the Multimix 8 for live recording, still can't get it going on my Toshiba Satellite. I ended up getting a digitech RP500 for effects which came with Cubase, that worked like a charm, also went with a Tascam US-122L, which worked fine.
But I like the vocal effects on the Multimix & would like to plug that in directly, especially if I'm recording more than one track. Please let me in on anything if it helps. I'll try installing the driver and see how it goes.

Hi

Ayelsis have just sent me an email to say that the driver on their site is not for the silver/blue & black Multimix with the metal case top (which is my one), but for the all black one in a plastic case.

They say that they designed my model of multimix to work with the drivers in Vista but there can be problems with some software (ie it works with Cubase and allegedly Sonar but not much else). They recomend installing ASIO drivers which I have done. No luck yet though, im still triing to get to grips with the ASIO drivers.

I'll let you knw if I have any success.

Have you read the README in the drivers folder :

================================================== ======================
Alesis installation notes, August 17, 2007
================================================== ======================

SUPPORT ON THE WEB
Please check Alesis for any newer drivers or applications before proceeding.

DO YOU NEED TO INSTALL THESE DRIVERS?
These drivers are for the Alesis MultiMix USB2.0 mixers.

If you have an Alesis MultiMix USB mixer (with "regular" USB1.1 rather than USB 2.0), these drivers are unnecessary.

These drivers are only needed if you have a USB2.0 version of the MultiMix.

You have to restore to a point in time before you plugged in the device for the first time with "system restore" option standard built in in XP. After that you need to do your steps again.

If you dont have a system restore point before you inserted the device first then you may uninstall the (wrong) driver windows installed as default by going to hardware management and searching for the device and then right click and uninstall the driver

I do not have a iMultimix but I have a long (maybe bad) time experience with the multimix products. I first purchased a Multimix 16 FW, running with a Quad, 4gb o RAM, SATAII, XP and VISTA... After lots of annoing problems Alesis stoped working with FW and migrated to USB2.0 (400Mb/s to 480Mb/s right?) well... Now itīs working fine and I think I can help you:

First of all remove all references to the MM drivers and softwares of your OS
Use a Registry cleaner to be shure itīs all gone
Start the instalation with your mixer turned off
After the instalation power it on
Folow the plug/unplug information on the screen
Always check alesis.com for driver updates...

Good luck!

I had the same problem with the Error message. Then I realized the USB has to go in a HIGH SPEED port. And I was using the two ports on the front of my computer. My high speeds were in the back. So I just plug it into one of those, reset the install, and bingo...

I have a question to anyone who has used this product with success. I can't get it to play through my computer speakers. Just headphones through to the machine. I use Acid Pro, and have Windows XP. I have an great soundcard and I've used Acid before with just an M Audio guitar to PC box, and been able to play guitar, hear guitar, and hear playback all without headphones, through my PC speakers. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?
