Default Distortion pedal

What's your favorite distortion pedal? I'm in the market and need some opinions.

A long time ago, I had an EH Big Muff that I thought was pretty amazing. Hard to say what I'd think of it nowadays.

Ha ! Ya, I only had one long ago. only two pedals in my life, really. The distortion and a wah. I will get a wah again. At the time, they (fuzz-tone) all sounded like Purple Haze wan-a-be.

I have several distortion pedals, and I use them for different applications with different amps. Boss' Heavy Metal and Danelectro's Fab Tone are good for Priest, Sabbath, British style heavy metal sounds. Big Muff Pi (Russian model) and Chandler Tube Driver are part of the Pink Floyd sound. Bixonic Expandora is another good pedal that works real good for that ZZ Top style rock. The Digitech Bad Monkey pedal is great for blues based rock, and it's cheap too.

Good luck.

ive found good sounds in the boss blues driver
very versatile, clean distortion
i also have the ibanez smash box, a bit raunchy but good for heavy metal
and the boss ds-1 is pointless in my pedal board but does make a decent fuzz pedal, should you need it; i would like to mod it one day to make it a bit more punchy

I always liked the Boss DS-1 and any of the Boss OD pedals.

I've been using the MXR Zakk Wilde OD, although it's not technically a distortion pedal. It can scream like the Ibanez TS909. It's good for country and blues type OD and sometimes an occasional classic rock song.

I might get the EH Big Muff Pi for the distortion and sustain. I bought one back in 1977 for $29.99 (that was expensive back then). Might have to get another one.
