You might want to check out the crysonic plugins:
HOME :: Crysonic - Professional Audio Plugins VST AU RTAS

Download a few of the demos and give them a try.

I have the Spectralive NXT and really like the polish it puts on my mixes
.

Checkin' it as we speak...

I hate the way they've bundled them now. I bought an Xtreme Pack UAD-1e. I don't remember spending two grand on it, though - not that it's not worth that.

Also bought; the SPL Transient Designer is incredibly useful. The LA-3A is groovy. The Precision Enhancer, not so much. Between that, a couple of native Digital Performer utility-like things, occasionally some of the BIAS things from the Masters bundle and Roger Nichols' Frequalizer, I have a hard time finding anything else to want... there is the UAD Precision Bus Compressor I'd like.

The Precision Limiter kicks ass.

I'd recommend the Waves L2. I find it very useful for smashing drums, evening out bass lines, and also on the 2-bus. I'm digging on the Waves API stuff on certain things- some kick drums and bass. Overheads sometimes.

From Stillwell - Event Horizon and The Rocket are my must-haves.

I don't believe you have to get a whole bundle, do you? You could pick a certain few plugs from one place and use the rest of your budget for something from elsewhere, maybe?

The newer UAD2 stuff is out of this world...I've got a friend who has a couple in his system, and they are fantastic. I'm still using the UAD1 with good success...best plugins on the planet IMHO...I sprung for Mercury about a year ago (wife about left me over it). While Waves is certainly better than most of the free plugins available, you really have to be able justify dropping that kind of cabbage. Waves is making some smaller packages that are much more wallet friendly.. check them out.

I dropped some cash recently on a UAD Solo Flexi Card... Very nice - trying out the different plugins & deciding which ones to spend my voucher on is cool, but a difficult decision. So far, I've decided on the Neve 88RS console strip, & I'm going to get the Fatso (amazing on a mix, drum buss, anywhere really!) Definitely looking at the transient designer too, & possibly the UAD 4K Buss Compressor - any other suggestions, good experiences are welcome...
