Sennheiser HD280 @ Musiciansfriend

Sennheiser HD280 @ Zzounds

Sennheiser HD280 Description
The Sennheiser HD280 Pro Closed-Back Headphones are circumaural headphones designed for professional monitoring applications. With up to 32dB external sound attenuation, it's perfect for use in noisy environments, at live shows, and by DJ mixers! The HD280 Pro features rugged design and optimum sensitivity that'll make even those wimpy headphone outs on synthesizers come alive - these babies are LOUD! The HD280 Pro delivers detailed, natural reproduction of music and speech, and boasts a smooth frequency response from 8Hz to 25kHz.

Ready to pack it up? The collapsible ear cups make it easy to stow in your gig bag! And all those parts you normally wear out - such as the ear pads, headband padding, and cable - are easily replaceable.

Due to its collapsible earpieces, the HD280 Pro is very space-saving when it comes to transportation. All parts subject to wear and tear such as earpads, headband padding, and cable are easily replaceable, thus ensuring long service life.

Thumbs up Re: Sennheiser HD280 Reviews

Quality: 10
well built, great sounding headphones, could even do some good rough mixers on these.

Reliability: 10
very reliable had them bout 2 years.

Overall Rating: 10
recommend to all, great if you want true sound in small recording studio say a one roomer, good for getting mixers close, but as always best to finish any mix with the monitors, not headphones.

Unhappy Re: Sennheiser HD280 Reviews

Quality: 4
these things sound pretty good, and the attenuation of room noise is very good, too.
The show stopper for me is the way the things fit on your head- i'm not kidding, it's like putting a vise on your head!
After 25-30 minutes with these on, my ears start to ache from the pressure of the cups crushing into my skull.
So, i can't recommend them, from my experience.

Reliability: 4
A wire was pinched at the junction of the cup/headband, killing the output to the right cup. I've had these phones for seven years, so warranty service was not an option. The fix is pretty easy, but i haven't bothered.

Overall Rating: 2
I wouldn't recommend these phones to anybody, unless they had a tiny head! Maybe it's just my pair, i don't know. I have a pair of beyer dt-770's that smoke the 280's in every respect, and i recommend those or akg240's, which are also far superior.

Jamie's review is very close to what I'd say. I never bought them but several of my classmates had them at school. Uncomfortable, they lack bass, and they're huge.
I got the ATH-M30s and really happy about it. I now have AKG K240s that are my main pair of listening headphones. But they're semi-open so a different style, and are really NOT as sturdy.

Because of their durability they are becoming standards in professional studios.

I agree with you regarding the akg240's construction. Ironically, they're the only $100+ pair of 'phones i've never had to repair in some fashion!
(i'm knocking on wood right now)
I even wear them with my ipod when i'm mowing or shoveling snow, so they must be better constructed than they seem.
I have a pair of the ath-m40's, and they are dynamite! For $60, they are an example of outstanding value.
