| Quality: 10 well built, great sounding headphones, could even do some good rough mixers on these. Reliability: 10 very reliable had them bout 2 years. Overall Rating: 10 recommend to all, great if you want true sound in small recording studio say a one roomer, good for getting mixers close, but as always best to finish any mix with the monitors, not headphones. |

| Quality: 4 these things sound pretty good, and the attenuation of room noise is very good, too. The show stopper for me is the way the things fit on your head- i'm not kidding, it's like putting a vise on your head! After 25-30 minutes with these on, my ears start to ache from the pressure of the cups crushing into my skull. So, i can't recommend them, from my experience. Reliability: 4 A wire was pinched at the junction of the cup/headband, killing the output to the right cup. I've had these phones for seven years, so warranty service was not an option. The fix is pretty easy, but i haven't bothered. Overall Rating: 2 I wouldn't recommend these phones to anybody, unless they had a tiny head! Maybe it's just my pair, i don't know. I have a pair of beyer dt-770's that smoke the 280's in every respect, and i recommend those or akg240's, which are also far superior. |

I agree with you regarding the akg240's construction. Ironically, they're the only $100+ pair of 'phones i've never had to repair in some fashion! (i'm knocking on wood right now) I even wear them with my ipod when i'm mowing or shoveling snow, so they must be better constructed than they seem. I have a pair of the ath-m40's, and they are dynamite! For $60, they are an example of outstanding value. |
