Hi! I have recently installed Logic Studio (Pro 8) after having updated from Logic Express 7. I am working on an Intel Macbook with 3Gb RAM and 80Gb harddisk. I'm a newbie to Mac having worked my way with from the early C-Lab Notator on an Atari ST via Logic Gold on a PC. Because of the limited space on the internal HD, I intended to install the Apple Loops and Garageband instruments on an external harddisk. Using the Disk Inventory X program I realized that everything ended up on the internal disk - taking 34.2Gb of the available 70+GB. My question is: I will probably not be using the Apple Loops at all - at least not within the foreseeable future. Can I simply delete the whole Apple Loops folder or will this give me problems running Logic? Alternatively - Can I move the whole folder to an external firewire disk? If yes - what will I have to do to for Logic to find the loops if I should need them? I will probably be using some of the Garageband instruments now and then. Can I move the whole Garageband folder or at least the Instrument library folder to an external firewire disk? Again - If yes - what will I have to do for Logic to find the loops? Thanks for a great site and forum! A very useful discovery indeed!!! SyrinxGC |

I'm not on Mac, but when I had smaller drives I would pack folders and pull stuff out when I needed it. SF-pack for Mac. Moving the old stuff off-line is a great idea, too.
