New Logic 9 install But Logic will not open garageband files

The install went without a hitch and both garageband and and
Logic work on their own. So I'm trying to figure out why I can't
open any garageband files in Logic 9.

I get the progress bar in Logic (but no progress). Instead all I get after
a few seconds is the beach ball. Finally I can see that nothing
is going anywhere so Logic requires a force quit.

I have plenty of Ram and loads of hard disc space and the
OS is up to date on my 24 inch intel iMac.

I have Garageband 5.1 and yes Ilife 09 as well.
As an Update, I checked off all the items that were
unchecked in my second installation using the install
disc. Then I restarted the computer.

This allowed some success with opening some of the
garageband projects in logic. However 3 of the projects
still refuse to open in logic.

These 3 files seem to have one thing in common. When I try
to open them in logic they get as far as the progress
bar but then they all stop at a point where the words
" channel eq" or "noise gate" is displayed and then I
get the beach ball followed by force quit.

Anyone else had this experience?

Hi. Welcome. There are very few folks on this forum running Macs and necessarily even fewer running Logic. Me: the former, not the latter (I use DP).

If I had this happen, what I'd try is the open the offending project, deinstantiate the offending plug-ins. I might even take them all off. Keep in mind you're doing the essentially difficult thing of opening one program's file in another. Not pleasant no matter what programs or platform involved. Also, trash the Audio Unit cache so Logic will rescan for available plug-ins. Actually, I'm not sure this is the way Logic does it. Consult the manual.
