Re: Logic Express latency?
I guess i'd need to know what your buffer size is- on my 2ghz macbook i run logic at a buffer setting of 128 and have no problems using an ensemble, which is pretty much the same as your duet.
If that's too much latency, use maestro for monitoring your incoming tracks while recording- mute the channel being recorded in logic's mixer. The duet is
an amazing audio box! I can't believe how great it sounds! Apogee wrote maestro so we can get zero latency while tracking.
My macbook is a late '06 model, which can address 3gigs of ram. I've never had a problem in logic with that amount, tho i regularly use more than 2gigs- perhaps you should consider adding more? If your mac is newer than mine, it can use 4gigs! At other world computing, two 2gig chips are less than $50, and you will see an immediate speed increase in logic.
The 128 buffer size is low enough for me to play drums to a click track with no problems (inside logic)- if you still have a noticable latency, there must be some config issue, as it should be unnoticable. This is running into the program with only logic's eq and compression plugins on the track- other plugs, like reverbs/delays or third party stuff can cause real timing problems.
will impart too much latency, even on my mac pro. Also, running cpu-hungry plugs on the master track while recording can cause problems.
I know logic express has a low- latency button on the transport bar, but my question was about whether it has a latency compensation setting for all plugins and busses in the /preferences/global window. This button
automatically puts all playback tracks in perfect sync no matter the plugin.
During recording, it disables any plugs or aux buss sync issues.
