Question Internal and external hard drive question

Hey e'budy.
I am running Logic Express on a Dual 1.8 powermac G5, OSX.4.11.
I installed LE on the internal hard drive and copied and pasted LE to a
lacie 160gig 7200 rpm firewire external hard drive.
When I use LE I open the external hd icon and operate it from that hd.
I sometimes notice while using it this way the hd meter on the lower
right hand corner of LE goes to about the middle of the meter and I'm
using only 2 or 3 tracks with maybe 1 or 2 effects

My question is; am I using the external alone or the external through the internal thus slowing the 7200 down to 5200 rpm?
Also would I be better off getting a 7200 rpm internal hd and use it instead of the external?

stigg.

Applications should be on your system drive, that is what it is designed for. You want to use your external drive to record to (set this up in Logic's preferences) and to store any extra content that you don't want on your system disc, like apple loops, etc.

Boo, thanks for the reply.
Sorry I'm not up to LE other than the basics but when I go to prefs. I get a menu:
Global
Midi
Display
score
video
automation
sharing
initialize all except key commands
Audio units manager
control surfaces
Key commands

Where do I go on the menu, and where do I go from there?
Thanks for your time.
s.

Stigg,

Let's see, there are a couple ways you can do this
Next to preferences there is a box called settings, then select>audio>set recording path or
When you create your project, it will ask where you want to save it, just direct it to a folder on your external hard drive.

Is logic installed on your external or internal? This could have a large effect on the speed of the program.

Express wouldn't let me install to the external so I had to copy the program from the primary internal to the external.

Why did you copy the program to the Ex HD?

Do you just record to the external? Is it ok to have all your sounds that come with the program on the internal drive?

Recommended to record to the external. You can have the content on your internal, if you have room. Let me be clear that Logic itself should be on your system drive, not the external.
