Default garageband input preferences not rsponding

When I select an input preference while using garageband it does not get applied. Whatever initially appears as my input choice remains. I try swithing between two mics to see which produces a better sound but but Im stuck with the snowflake mic that plugs directly into the imac. MY other mic which in put through an M-Audio interface does not record. It did during inital tries but as I recorded and swithced more it stopped. Any suggestions?

Are you leaving the Snowflake plugged in when trying the m audio interface? If you are try powering down, unplugging the Snowflake and powering up again. Then change the setting for the input. It sounds like you have a conflict on the USB bus because both are USB devices. I am not at home so I can not prove this. Give it a try if you have not already.
