Exclamation About Logic - And creating good sounding recordings

I just joined RecordingReview a few days ago. I use Logic Express 7.1, hoping to move up to Logic Studio as soon as I can afford it. I'm not sure where the Logic part of the forum is right now. (The threads/messages seem a bit old.) Anyway, I'd just like to say what I want to do is learn on Logic, since that's the audio/midi sequencer app I started with and am most familiar with, to create the best recordings that I can. i will accept advice from a PC user, Atari user, (if they're still out there), or any other. To heck with which is the best platform. I think they all have their pluses and minuses. Also, I believe since the primary goal is to make good sounding recordings, and I'm sure qualified programmers created all these programs, we can all learn and grow from each other, even though some issues will be platform specific.
I love Brandon's down-to-earth attitude!! The is the most person friendly forum of its kind I've seen so far.

I've been using Logic for a number of years now, and I just love the ease of use (for most things!). I recently jumped from a fairly slow pc running Logic 5, to a Mac running Logic Studio. Yes the difference is amazing, but I still had great results on the pc. I know guys still using just Logic in commecial studios..... because that's what they've always used, and it works. I think it's an amazing piece of software, from messing with midi sounds/loops at home, to then recording a full band in a studio set-up.

The Studio does come with extra software/plug-ins/sound library, but the Express version has all you need to get some great recording. Stick with that, use it and abuse it..... then later see if Logic 8 Studio gives you what you then need.

Laters.

Post Re: About Logic - To Alarmist

Thanks, man, for the feedback. I'll take your advice as far as sticking with LE 7.1. for a while. I've always known I've not been using the program to its fullest potential. Right now economics dictate that I stick with what I have. Tell me though, does Logic Studio still have the Environment? That's been a difficult item for me really get the hang of. I guess I was impressed with the "one window" recording, editing setup the Studio ads talk about, thinking that will help speed up my work and be a bit easier to use all the bells and whistles.
Thanks again.

Wow. I know I'm supposed to follow the PT beacon, but I had NO luck with that stuff. I paid a lot for Logic Studio off the shelf, and have to say it was the best money I ever spent. It just works. Having nifty doohinkies doesn't help if your files are all corrupted and your computer stalls every time you want to record. Not that I'm bitter. Is it hot in here ?

I haven't used a whole lot else besides Logic Studio 8 but I'm happy with that. It's really fucking fantastic and I love my Mac.

What I like most about MAC and Logic Pro 8 is the stability that it brings to recording. I used Sonar for a couple of years and there was nothing but problems. I'm not talking about daily or even weekly, but every once in a while I would lose things and or the recording would include snaps and pops or just plan stop for no reason and close down the program. I switched computers and bought new hard drives and all that jazz but it didn't stop the occasional problem I experienced.

As far as Logic Pro and MAC goes, I have used Logic 7 and now 8 for over three years or so, with more recording being done and not ONE HICCUP, knock on wood. Never a skipped beat. It's fucking solid as a gawdamn rock. I will never go back to PC for recording.

PC is great for games though, you will never take them away from me for that...lol

I have to say again how much I appreciate the stability of the Mac, and of course, everyone's familiar with the user-friendly argument. When I was in science, I knew of labs that had Mac computers that had been on continuously for several years, with only an occasional reboot for updates, or new software. The initial price is higher, naturally, to buy a Mac, but it more than makes that back right away, I think.

I agree that the Mac is a far superior machine, the OS is easier to learn and use, with less crashes, etc. I am working on an old (2001) eMac 800mhz. It gets the job done. I'm ready to move up, though, because there is a little too much noise in my recordings from the fan, I guess. I'd never switch to PC, that's for sure!!
