My first post here. I have been using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 (both midi and audio) and Cool Edit 2000 for a bunch of years on WinXP. Yeah, I know, pretty old stuff but it meets my needs. I decided to try Audacity in place of Cool Edit for editing the audio recorded in PA9.I added Audacity to the PA9 Tools menu so that I can select an audio track and invoke Audacity directly from PA9. Audacity starts up with a copy of the audio track ready for editing. So far so good. The problem is that I can't find a way to close Audacity and have the edited version of the audio back in PA9. This works automagically with Cool Edit. Is there a way to do the same thing with Audacity? If not with PA9, how about with Sonar Home Studio? Thanks, Larry

With Audacity selected from the PA9 tools menu, Audacity opens the audio file provided by PA9. Since Audacity will not SAVE changes to the input wave file, I tried to *export* the edited audio to the same filename as the input filename. Audacity will do that only if you are using the option where Audacity makes a copy of the input file rather than reading directly from it. After exporting the edited file back into the same filename that PA9 provided, PA9 loaded the edited file. The Audacity export is much more time consuming to do compared to a Save (or ctrl-S) in Cool Edit. The Audacity export function opens a file navigation box that requires you to navigate to where the input file is located (a Windows temp folder), click Save and then click Yes to the dialog about "the file already existing and would I like to replace it". For now I'll just stick with Cool Edit. Unless someone shows me how to get Audacity to work with PA9 (and someday Sonar) as well as Cool Edit does. I think the ability to save the changes back into the input file would do the trick. --Larry
