suddenly stopped recording!

Hi

I am totally clueless so if you are kind enough to answer please do so in words of one syllable! I used audacity to record my first podcast, which is now online I am happy to say! Had various problems getting it exported as an mp3 (never did but converted it after) and also getting a webhost to allow it etc, so am really happy to have it up finally.

I had almost finished recording my second episode and I opened it up to finish it off. The new stuff I played back was silent. But it's not a playback problem because the saved stuff was fine on the same project. I had shut the computer down in between, don't know if that maybe relevant.

I have a lovely microphone attached to an alesis i02 attached to my PC. Using Windows Vista. I just can't figure out why it's suddently stopped working when it was fine before! So frustrating, I had hoped to get this up tonight!

I would be grateful for any pointers.

So you can see the waveform of your last recording but you can't hear it on playback?
Have you checked the volume settings on that track? Have you accidentally muted the track?

Ou haven't changed sample rate or anything between recordings?

BTW concerning mp3....did you download the LAME file needed by Audacity for mpe conversion?

Hi! I can see the waves AND hear the old part of the recording, that's all fine. It's just the new part that for some reason won't play back, I record it and the thing moves along and then I play it back and the new bit is silent after the old bit plays fine.

I don't know what the sample rate is (sorry!!) but as far as I know I haven't changed anything at all - just shut the computer down as I was taking it somewhere and then started it up again at home.

Yip, I downloaded all that LAME stuff and I checked it was showing up when I clicked the bit (can't remember which bit of the menu as I don't have it in front of me but it was there!). But that's not aproblem as I downloaded something found on google which converts WAVs to Mp3's and it works really well.
