Default noise gate on recording

Im using audisty to record live sermons at a local church. There is a little bit of low level back ground noise, (mainly from my mixer).

In the past I have used a noise gate to get rid of the noise.

Question, does audacity have the abilty to have a electronic noise gate, that will cut the low level back gound noise.

I.e I would wont to set a level that any audio below ismuted.

Effect>Utility>Noise Removal

I do not have experience with this tool but for your purposes it should work well.

I have used the noise removal tool, but prefer the version on NCH.

I'm after a real time noise gate that will remove noise below a certain level i.e. -30 db down. A noise gate can be used to pass audio above a base line, anything below is cut. handy to get rid of the bcak groud hiss

I don 't know what NCH is (I do know about limiting, thanks), but Real Time anything doesn't exist in software because the signal has to be converted by an A/D convertor and then processed digitally. I don't see the difference between processing a noise level after 5oo milliseconds or 500 minutes unless it is a live performance. Audacity would be the wrong solution for live performance issues.

Download Audio, Telephony and Dictation Programs by NCH Software simalar to audacity.

I have used an Audio gate in the past to remove some un wanted low level noise from a live recording in real time. I was after software that done the same feature as the audio gate while Im recording.

What I want

When the signal is converted to digital any auduio below a certain selectable threshold would be discarded.

Why do you need to do it in real time?
