Am new to this forum but have been reading your posts and you seem a friendly bunch so I thought I would jump in! I bought myself a Usb turntable as a treat so I could transfer all my vinyl to my pc then onto cd.I have managed to record 3 whole tracks in 2 1/2 hours and 2 of them are playing at the same time so its not going too well ![]() I have managed to convert my track with switch so i can play on wmp so although its a slow process am sure I will get my quite large collection of vinyl on cd eventually. How did those 2 tracks end up being combined? (when played) Bet it was something I did.... Hope you can help before I do something nasty to the other half who keeps sniggering diydawn |

firstly welcome to the forums. secondly I am not too sure what you mean by two tracks playing at the same time. if you could go into more detail it would help to diagnose your problem more effectively. also, how are you going about recording the vinyl and converting it? As Audacity is multitrack, I assume that you probably had two tracks open in the same window and rendered them together as one track. Its just a guess though but Im hoping you can give me more detail.

Thanks for the welcome fortyseven and I'm sorry if I was vague. My only excuse was brain lag. I was using Audacity to record from my usb turntable (acoustic solutions) which I have to say is working fine.I am not sure about the same song being open in the same window as I have to admit I was clicking this and that without any understanding. The song was mixed together..same song but one on another part of the song to the other.Hope I have explained that ok. The volume on playback was not as loud as I would like tho..its set at 128bps should it be set higher? Many thanks and I hope I have explained that ok Diydawn |

no need to apologise; we're all learning. Audacity is perfect for what you are doing; its fairly simple to use plus its free. I cant comment on why two tracks got 'mixed'. Obviously you will have to re-record those two. Rather than go into a whole explanation on how to record vinyls in Audacity, I would suggest going here: Audacity: Frequently Asked Questions. Its a very useful page with instructions for your particular situation. You can also use Audacity to convert your files to mp3 but you have to download the encoder first. 128Kbps is ok but if its quality you're after then I'd suggest bumping it up to about 320Kbps or so. All the instructions are on the above website though. After reading through it; if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hiya fortyseven and thanks for your advice. I got on a lot better today and audacity doesnt seem so daunting.I did figure out the problem I was having with the same track playing but mixed up. I did have another window open and I had also moved the time shift bar...hence the delay. Only thing I cant find on the faqs or in the manual is where to adjust from 128bps to 320bps.Can I ask your help again please Thanks diydawn |

Certainly. Once you have installed the Lame MP3 encoder and wish to render your project to MP3, simply click on File>Export. This will take you to the Export File screen where you can choose where to save the file to. Before clicking Save, look to the bottom right of the screen and you should see a drop down list. Select MP3 Files. Now an Options button should be available just underneath the dropdown list. Click it and choose the relevant settings. I would suggest using 320Kbps with a variable bit rate. This option, in my opinion, has the best quality however the final file sizes will be slightly larger. Good luck.
