Default Audacity & Mbox - need help

Hi Guys

I'm new to all this so apologies. I've been told I can use my Mbox with audacity. Is this true?

If yes how do I get it to work. I downloaded 'Digidesign Audio driver 70' for from the Digidesign site. I then went into Audacity's preferences to set recording device to Mbox but it didn't appear on the drop down. Maybe I've set something up wrong?

Can anyone help?

Appreciate it if anyone can help me

Well it looks like there is no "'Digidesign Audio driver 70". That's just a heading for two actual drivers, a WAVE driver and ASIO. Make sure you load and run the ASIO driver setup. It should then show up in Audacity.

Plus, they warn not to run both drivers at the same time unless you disable Windows sounds.

Take a look at this page if you continue to have trouble.

Thanks for that.

Sorry, I'm a complete novice. How do you disable Windows sounds?

No need to apologize.

In Windows go to START> SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS and then when you see Sound Scheme select NONE.

Thanks done that and installed the driver.

IN audacity went to EDIT>PREFERENCES>AUDIO I/O.
No sign of driver on either the playback or recording drop down boxes.
The options I get on the drop down boxes are 'MME:Microsoft Sound mapper - INput' and 'Realtek AC97 Audio'.

When I go into CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS>AUDIO, the playback drop down does show a digidesign Mbox

Any ideas?

Is MBOX USB? USB can sometime be cranky epecially if perhaps the device wasn't turned on when the drivers were installed or something. GO back into Control Panel >SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER >SOUND AND GAME CONTROLLERS and see if the Mbox drivers show up there and if so, see if the drivers are enabled.

If possible I would delete all Mbox drivers and start over but I'm not sure how comfortable you are doing that.

Just for kicks you could unplug the mbox and then plug it into another USB port and see if that helps.
