Quality: 9
I bought the Quantum Leap Hardcore Bass XP in the summer of 2006. I've used it on numerous projects. I have to say that when the programming is good, this bass sample package sound AWESOME. I also have to say that programming bass is HARD! I don't know what it is about programming with this thing, but I never seem to be able to get the quality out of that I know is in there. For example, head to Quantum Leap Hardcore Bass XP :: East West/Quantum Leap :: Developers :: Sounds Online and listen to their audio samples. It's clear this thing is a very mean sounding bass sound. However, I'm either doing something terrible wrong with my MIDI programming or these guys are taking tons of time programming these things. I attribute my inability to squeeze the awesome out of this thing at my own lack of MIDI programming skill. So I think it's safe to say that if you are a beginner MIDI guy you may have trouble getting the same awesomeness out of this that you hear on the sound samples on the website. Reliability: 10 I've had absolutely no trouble with Quantum Leap Hardcore Bass XP. It's been very reliable and doesn't use up much RAM or CPU power when compared to other sample libraries I own. Overall Rating: 9 If you are awesome at MIDI sequencing and need a MEAN, aggressive sounding bass sample library buy it in a second. Don't hesitate. If you aren't so skilled at MIDI sequencing, it's a toss up. You won't be able to sound as mean as they do on the samples, but you'll still have a bass sample library that you can grow into.
