I recently bought these monitors to use in my home studio (primarily) as computer speakers and as a quick reference for my KRK monitors w/sub (which I like and they still serve me well). Prior to buying the M-Audio AV-40's, I was successfully using my Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones as a reference for with my KRK's. I will point out that the low-powered, M-Audio AV-40's were just average rated, inexpensive monitors that I set up like ordinary PC speakers. But, to my suprise, they were very revealing little monitors. To make sure they were actually performing as well as I thought, I moved them to a second PC (in a loft area of my home) where I already had a current version of Audacity running. I've used this setup to record my acoustic guitar with a portable recorder (Olympus LS-10) using my Audio-Technicia headphones for primary mixing/monitoring. Experimenting with a couple of older recordings, the M-Audio AV-40's were every bit as revealing as I thought. Maybe, it is the acoustics of the loft, but I now have a real delima. Which PC and/or recording device (Echo AudioFire8 or Olympus LS-10) do I use for recording? Needless to say, I really like these inexpensive little M-Audio Audiofile AV-40's! |

DDred, It may be the speaker wire connection between your left and right speaker is bad. With something playing through the speakers, I would "wiggle" the connecton on left speaker and then the right. If your left speaker cuts in and out, it's probably the connection. Otherwise, I'd check the computer connection and balance settings under Speaker Properties on your computer's Control Panel under the Sound icon. Hopes this helps. |

Just a thought, I believe the M-Audio AV 40 s requires a TRS 1/4 inch cable. If you are useing a standard 1/4 inch guitar cable, that would cause your problem I believe. MG
