JBL LSR4326 Monitors
I did a LOT of research on monitors before i bought these- in fact i was going to go with the dynaudio bm5 because the jbl's were too expensive- then they dropped the price just as i was making the bm5 purchase- i feel lucky they did.
I knew it was a gamble that the 'rmc' soft/hardware would actually work, but the gamble ssems to be paying off.
You can get all the specs for the speakers anywhere, so i'll stick to my results. I have the standard rectangle bedroom for a control room with the speakers on either side of my monitor. I set up the included mic on a boom right where my head is during tracking/mixing and ran the room correction tones, and got down to work. I first tried listening to commercial stuff i knew well, and it sounded great. The i took the room correction curve and bypassed it- the material sounded woofy and boxy.
I then started tracking and mixing my own stuff, and the results were shocking! My old mixes were embarrassing. I redid a few, and right away they started translating well to the usual boomboxes/cars/ipods.
I loved my old event speakers, but getting a mix that translated was hit or miss.
Bottom line- i'm able to create mixes now that i feel confident about. It used to frustrate me so much, reading all the techniques for good recording only to have lousy results- well i guess hearing what you're doing helps!
I don't know if these are good monitors or not, but i know i can mix well on them, and that's all that matters to me.
