Diminutive in size these little guys roar. The cabinets thwart diffraction and the imaging is world class. I never expected them to be so accurate, but one thing for sure is they don't lie. The bottom end is good to around an honest 50hz or so, but don't expect to get the open E on a bass guitar sounding live and in your face (remember that's 40hz). however they most certainly make up for it in the rest of the audible spectrum. The midrange is above reproach and about the best I've every heard. It can be trusted in the mix and mastering. So I DO consider these a reference speaker. Certainly much more so than ANY of the smaller monitors out there. If you're in a project studio or wish to have good reference monitors in a tight spot these would be a superb choice. The imaging alone is a real highlight. Nice wide soundstage.

Sho how are mixes translating with the Event ALP5 monitors? Brandon |

Extraordinarily well actually. The most accurate in translation is the lower mid's right up through the high end. I've compared on car stereo's, upper end and mid end home stereo's as well as a few boom boxes and on 2 systems with headphones. All worked rather nicely. The ONLY thing one must pay attention to is to NOT be fooled into cranking up to much of the very low end (30-60hz range) as these guys roll off pretty quick below 60hz so without a sub I tend to compare on my Sony headphones, and if it is about right on them, it turns out right in general. The mid range is the real highlight of these monitors, they simply do NOT lie. No fatigue with a honest upper register. The imaging is about as good as it get's and has a pretty wide sweet spot actually.

I use these little reference speakers too and I'm really, really happy with them. Very flat, "do not lie" reference speakers. I've had mine for around four years. One thing that I'm dissapointed with though and it's more of a quality issue is that the speakers have developed cracks in the cones, they have never been exposed to extreme temperature changes or direct sunlight. It hasn't affected sound at this point but am wondering if it will overtime or even if this is normal? anyone else have the same problem? |
