Do you still recommend this or is it out dated?

Also, can you tell me what is "key dongle"?

THANKS!

Quality: 10
I've been extremely happy with Cubase SX3. I purchased it long before Cubase 4 came out and I have never bothered to upgrade to Cubase 4. I never saw the point. I've been able to do practically everything I've ever wanted to do in this software. When I made the switch from Vegas to Cubase SX3, the jump was TREMENDOUS. It was immediately apparent that about a billion years of extra thought had gone into each and every feature. I'm still amazed at the level of detail they have placed in their software.

I love the routing. I love how I can use “lanes” when comping vocals (or any other instrument). I love the fact that there are tons of cool VST plugins out there. I love the fact that the software is just as powerful making techno or hip hop beats with a MIDI sequencer as it is recording death metal or folk music.

I couldn't recommend Cubase SX3 higher and the fact that I haven't upgraded should illustrate it's quality pretty well. To anyone who needs a killer sequencer and a killer audio recording software application, I can't think of a better way to go.

There are tiny little things that I would change about Cubase SX3. These are very, very tiny. For example, I wish I could change the plugin order on inserts after I already have them set. Let's say I put a compressor on insert #1 on the snare track. If I later decide I want to put a gate on insert #1, I have to remove my compressor, add the gate, and then place the compressor on insert #2. Obviously I could just save a preset of the original compressor and have this task finished in 30 seconds. I'm clearly nitpicking because all the big stuff has already been done. I feel like I can do anything with Cubase SX3 and do it well.

Reliability: 8

I can't recommend Cubase SX3 more. I think it's great software and I'm continually impressed by how well the software is thought out. There are so many features that I haven' used, but I must admit that I like the fact that if I need to accomplish any given thing, there is probably a feature within Cubase to do it.

I think this review is sorta ineffectual. Steinberg doesn't sell it anymore and Amazon doesn't even have private sellers for it anymore. Simply put the only way you can get this is by illegally download or copy, or used. But if it requires online registration buying used is out of the picture.
