Default Need to master a tune (?)

Hi everyone,

Someone from a label on Japan liked one of my songs and wanted to include it on a compilation CD. The song was home-recorded and it surely could sound better.

I posted the song on the bashing forum (there are 2 mixes on the thread), you can check it out here: 41
The song is already mixed and pre-mastered (I just applied EQ, a bit of compression and limiter).

Is the song ready for mastering? Or should I send to remix it too?

Also, does anyone know any mastering studio that has a good cost-benefit (I need good results, but I´m kinda short on cash)? By the way, I´m in Brazil, so it needs to be a place that I can upload the track.

Thanks for your time.

Edu Cesar

Is the label looking for mastered tracks?
A good one will master the tracks at their expense so that all the tracks make sense as an album.

On the other hand you could just make it sound as good as you can on it's own, then make it loud. Send it to them, if there's a problem they'll tell you.

Are they paying you?

Hi,

The guy listened to the demo I made and said it would be better to master/remix it. I pretty much did the best I could, but there are minor things I can adjust, but I´m just an amateur when it comes to mixing/mastering.

They´re not paying anthing. Since I´m not a professional musician (I don´t do it for a living) and I don´t even have a band, I thought it would be nice to have it promoted like that.

Thanks!

WO! Hang on. Publicity is one thing, but taking your song (and other peoples) for nothing, making an album and then selling it... well, that's kind of shark like. Asking you to get it ready for replication is like the shark asking you to put salt and pepper on yourself before he eats you alive.

Ops, actually I´m not shure if it will be for free. I just got an email with a memo and it says something about royalties, but I´m confused with legal terms in english (English is not my main language), but I´ll read it more carefully and see if it´s worth it.

I got excited about having a song on a CD, but you´re right, it´s not nice to have an artistic work ripped off.

Thanks!

to collect royalties internationally you'll need to be in a performing rights association.
You may not see any money for a year, and compilations don't sell that well anyway.

Since there isn't much to gain don't beat yourself up over getting it perfect. Maybe someone on the forum can offer their services remixing and mastering it?
(not me, I'm waaay too busy this month, but would otherwise)

I like this song, and I can see why the japanese would want it. Anyways if you want I'll master it for you. I'll send you a PM so check your PM's!
