How do I use outboard compressor with Tascam 2488 II??

I've got two ART Pre channel's and was wondering how I use the compressor and/or EQ sections for my final mixdown/master? All the Tascam unit has is 1/4" effects sends and 1/4" master out. Do you come out of those and back into an input? I've read and re-read the manual but they don't get into using any kind of outboard compressors.

Solo the track(s), send it out the master, record on fresh stereo track.

I have an older Tascam 2488 but it might work the same regarding your q. Send your signal out one your unbalanced effects sends to your input on your compressor. Plug in the out from your comp into one of the inputs on your recorder. Dial up the Effects loop for that track. Then assign that input to the submix to monitor it. To keep that compressed track, just bounce that track into another with the effects loop dialed up. Hope it makes sense.
