an exciter adds harmonics to a signal.
one way to achieve this is to duplicate the signal, duplicate one copy, invert the phase and recombine with the original signal leaving you with just what was added from distortion=harmonics.

sound too complicated? Leave it to a mastering engineer.

A maximizer is a type of brickwall limiter used to achieve maximum amplitude for the mastered song.

Ozone 4 has both of these features, and a very well written instruction guide you can download.

a lot of my friends have BBE sonic maximizers on their guitar rigs. it makes it sound heavy heavy br00tal. never tracked with it though.

I tried this once. The box itself (362 and the later Maxx... I forget what it was called) was too noisy for recording use. Cool effect, though. And the "Sonic Maximizer" plug-in was absolute rubbish.
