Thumbs down help with mixing

hi how is every one today
im trying my hands on mixing after learning and trying for many hours read every thing that can be read obout the subject of mixing .
gears that i have is
windows xp
lexicon omega
mxl 990 mic
yamaha sy 77 keyboard
mpd 32
cubase studio 4
fl studio 8
ableton live 6+7
and bunch of vst and vsti
my qst is why do cubase keep sticking and skipping ok i checked the vst meter to see that i dont over work the cpu but i hvent used anything major as yet i created group busses so i dont to do use to many vst on every channel but still i get the cubase sticking and skipping what im doing wrong here a little help would be appreciated
thank you in advance


i didnt mention i only have 1 gig of ram
atleast how much is minimum should i have ??

Sounds like a latency problem, what latency are you using?

Try a little higher.

im at the lowest that i can go on lexicon omega asio
and beside when tracking and play back its its ok
its only when im mixing it start up
lets say if i use compression and gate
that its when it start bugging skipping and clicking
then again it might aswell be but during tracking it whent perfect
its only when im mixing

It's nice to have low latency while your tracking so there is no delay when your singing through a vst effect or whatever.

You don't need low latency while mixing so try a higher value.

Sounds like it's gagging on too much controller data.

I tried in on the asio4 all ,omega lexicon asio and the asio directx full duplex driver and i get the same result i madethe buffersize bigger and same thing or worst.
or maybe im ot doing somethng right here guess i have to try again see what happen

I guess I missed something, what's the difference between playback and mixing, what do you do that's different?

When I mix, I just playback and record fader movements from my control surface, then when I like it I do audio mixdown which doesn't make any sound at all.

while im using reverb and compressors and sht i keep getting like its sticking and crap
ok maybe i didnt xplain to clearly but anyway when i try to use vst i get these problem
but i will get back again to you and xplain more in detailed .

Sounds like your just overloading your system. Reverb can be really bad about that especially convolution.
Treat the audio file. Do a mixdown while soloing the track with reverb on or audio mixdown of the reverb bus but get the reverb you want on an audio track then you can mix using less resources.
