Most people decide that recording isn't such a casual thing, so they try to dedicate the machine to recording as much as possible.

RAM can help, but it's not normally going to help with disk interruptions. Usually people can get rid of things and find a happy ground.

You can also work-up a dual boot system, or, you can try a dual config system.
You might also add a second hard drive just for audio.

Creating a new user will let you offload some user stuff - like messaging and other internet processes.

I thought I had my new laptop all cleaned-up, and later, I started getting bad audio from Media Player all of a sudden. Some little Defender Icon by the system clock was interrupting things.

garww, i would really appreciate your help with this. Maybe with this you'll know what the problem is or where should i ask about it. My friend's sister got a notebook, just like mine. She installed the drivers and used the m-audio, and, as it happened with my notebook, it all went prefectly. As you told me maybe it has to do with something on the prossecing area, i told her to copy the current processes on her pc, to see if maybe something's interrupting things. Here's the list of the processes:

msnmsgr.exe
ctfmon.exe
NMBgMonitor.exe
TeaTimer.exe
smax4pnp.exe
taskmgr.exe
mcagent.exe
alg.exe
rundll32.exe
explorer.exe
mcsysmon.exe
wlcomm.exe
mspaint.exe
MpfSrv.exe
MDM.EXE
Mcshield.exe
McProxy.exe
McNASvc.exe
mcmscsvc.exe
McSACore.exe
GBInst.exe
BTNtService.exe
svchost.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
lsass.exe
services.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
wdfmgr.exe
svchost.exe
nvsvc32.exe
System.exe
Inactive System Process

maybe with this you can see if there someting interrupting or something, i don't know :S or maybe you can tell me where should i ask about this. Thanks a lot

What's running is not so important, but what they do. Is that mc stuff anti-virus ? That will mess with any file activity depending how is config'd.

I have a taskinfo2000 on my desktop that will show me who called the process and what directory it resides in. That will help you.

Under control panel/admin tools/performance you can watch for activity - you don't want any : ) you can also watch the disk drive light on the computer case.

If it's a new box, you can be sure Indexing is at work. Disable that in admin tools for sure.

man you're really helping me out, thanks. Nooow the thing is i don't quite understands what's going on on the "performance" window , under admin tools. I see some graphics, is that activity? how do i disable it? And is "Indexing" in the admin tools folder? or in the performance window? because i don't have any "Indexing" icon on admin tools. Oh, i forgot to say, she has the mcafee antivirus installed. maybe it's interfiering with smth??

Under admin/computer management/services you should be able to stop and start services.

The anti virus thing is difficult. Sometime you can find a game mode or leave me alone button that will let you do some work without interruption.

It seeeeems the audio-cracking problem has been resolved! thanks a lot man, as you said, the audio had to be set as the primary thing to work with, i mean getting all the pc to concentrate on the audio.
Stil i got a little question , how do i configure the m-audio usb with sonar 6? the interface is working, but i can't record anything in sonar. (the recording button looks kinda transparent, i can't click on it even if i've already selected the "prepare to record" setting in the track. Do you know how i can configure the m-audio? or what do i have to change on sonar's settings? thanks a lot again man, you're help is SO useful
