Great Mastering info

I have to share this with you guys since this was such a great help to me in understanding a lot of the things you can do during the mastering process to help out your songs.

It is a mastering guide for Ozone but it contains more broad information and tips on how to use things like EQ, reverb, muti-band effects, harmonic exciters, stereo imaging, multiband dynamics and loudness maximizers during mastering.

It explained what these things are and how they can be used rather than a specific guide on how to use their product. So this was great info even if you have never seen Ozone.

I'm new to this so I would be interested in hearing from you guys on if and how you use these kind of tools when you master.

Thanks for posting it. I'll give it a read. I'm not a fan of their products as they've certainly done more harm to recordings than good. However, I'll try to be objective when reading it.

Really? What don't you like about their products? I'm sure you've got good reasons, so I'd like to hear them, as it may convince me not to use ozone3 anymore if it really is something worth ditching.

It's not so much "worth ditching". It's more the fact that I consider it to be a 100% unnecessary purchase.

OK, so basically this article says don't even try doing your own mastering at home, because some guy in his 1000000000 $$ st00dio will do it better than you. haha

Don't use a "mastering" outfit because it has the name mastering in it ? I mean.. come on. You should use whatever suits good to your ears and time will tell you what you did wrong in your older mixes. That's the way I see it.. but heck, I'm still young and I have all my life to learn

Well it doesn't say only that though, it also sez that ur mix should sound good already b4 u attemp to master, and I agree with that because some ppl I know for example claim to get rid of all the problems which come from their mix faults by just "mastering" the track and that is terribly wrong to me...

I agree that a $99999999999 worth studio is gonna be better than my room but at the same time, if the mixdown has been done well perhaps mastering will help reaching a slight improvement, is not gonna be something like a miracle of course but still something...

however, I don't like ozone plugin but perhaps is about taste as usual

I'm in total agreement! If the mix is not up to par, no amount of money, expertise, equiptment, or software will help.

Mastering should be the final shine, not the rescue attempt.
