mastering (in basic terms) is the process of organising and preparing all your tracks so that they can be burned onto a disc to create your master copy from which all others will be made.

What you're asking is more related to tracking and mixing rather than mastering.
On the hip hop and dance tracks they're taking advantage of the lower end of the freq spectrum...think subwoofer range (< 50 hz).

I haven't played around with any of the subkicks like the one Yamaha makes, but something like that may help for tracking. In the mixing stage you'll need to play around with the 30 - 60 hz range (and probably need to have a good subwoofer to complement your good monitoring system )

you sound like a candidate for possible sample replacement surgery.

have you ever heard of a plugin called drumagog?

I use Drumagog but haven't gotten any sub-kick samples. Do you know where I can get any?

I hate to say it, but I'm becoming a Drumagog Addict!

Drumagog is a legitimate drum sampling program. There is a large established librayr of actual drum samples. Farview Recording sells some good samples. Steve Slate is another excellent source for drum samples. Check out there websites.

Nashville uses Drumagog quite extensively.
