Default Yamaha 01V96 review

Does anyone have a review on this board?

I just picked one up from guitar center ( Actually I got it for a steal )

I am just curious as to some tips and tricks maybe some pitfalls etc.....

Thanks,

You should look into using Cubase now that you have the 01v96. Download the studio manager software from Yamaha and the mixer will sync with Cubase. I have owned an 01v96 for about three years and used it for live shows and recording into an Alesis HD24. I just purchased a Mac Pro and the Cubase software. You might find it very nice to be able to use the mixer faders to control the software.
If you didn't know- Yamaha owns Steinberg which owns Cubase. They will interface quite nicely. I have just started mixing with the 01v96 in sync with Cubase and it is pretty good.

Thanks for the advice. I really like the mixer. Cubase is very unfamiliar territory.it syncs with logic as general daw and pro tools is already configured. You saw cubase sets up a little smoother though?

Yes, it syncs up easily to Cubase. The 01v will also sync to your software. Though, Cubase software allows you to hook up external hardware to it. I don't think other software allows that, but I could be wrong.

Are you going to use the 01V for recording only? I use mine in live concerts and it is just fantastic. I have added extra preamps to bring the total to 20. I am going to be purchasing another soon. One for my home studio and one for live shows. I have not come across another mixer that gives so many options- live and recording- in it's price range. Presonus has there new mixer, but it doesn't have motorized faders. If your's is the latest model (VCM) you just picked up some fantastic effects. I bought mine right before Yamaha came out with the added VCM addition.
I believe you will grow to love the mixer!

I paid 1250 for the mixer. I thought it was a great deal. It is a year and a half old model. No it does not have the vfm effects. The yamAgata rep told my connection at guitar center he would upgrade to firmware for free. (whAtever that means)

you know speaking of connectivity. It's really funny. I run an m-audio 1814 with the 01v added thru adat. Logic sees all 16 chanels but the midi control won't sync. Protools syncs beautifully to the 01 with the midi set to the pro tools settings but there the 1814sees the optical but I can find inputs 9-16 in the chNnel strips inside pro tools. It's gotta be an ID10T error I'm doin to myself. As far as the functions of the mixer all I can say is wow. Crisp pres, decent eq, limiting compression and verb if I want it. All with some pretty good presets for a variety of applications.

I too was lookin at the new presonus live 16:4: but ran across this deal and felt like I was getting more bang for less buck

You got a great deal! You know they sell for $2000 new (your model). And if the Yamaha rep said they will upgrade for free, wow! The rep here said no way to upgrading mine for free. I am going to purchase another 01V soon at $2400!
You made a good choice in passing up the Presonus.
Have fun!
