Ideally, the recording engineer would have dozens of amps and guitars in their collection from which bands could sculpt their sound. However, since, as a recording engineer, I am constantly trying to improve my end of the recording chain (which usually means spending more money on a wider variety of 'crayons'), I, in the low to mid budget stage of things, would leave the amps and instruments to the band. Let everyone specialize in their own thing.

Thanks. I'm on the low budget chain myself. I'm sure eventually i'll have more goods to add to my studio.

It took a while for me to set it up and a little extra parts for it to be compatible, but once i got it working on my system... well its the best $500 ive ever spent. I love this thing. the preamps are great quality! Sure they aren't tube pre's but they dont color your sound. great for all applications of recording. Dont buy into the headphone amp, u can get cheap stereo adapters for 6 bucks each. I like the one rackmount space also. When i get the money im buying another one of these. you wont be dissapointed.

Great - worked off the bat. Checked I had a supported Firewire chipset in my FW card first, did the install and the machine connected straight away. Milspec mounting and buttons, or so they say. It's all good.

Reliability: 9
Only had for a few weeks, but no issues so far. The guys at the Presonus forums seem helpful and answer those who have problems pretty smartly, from what I can see.

Overall Rating: 9
I always spend some time checking the compatability stuff before I buy something (was a computer consultant in a past life) and so far I have not made the wrong purchase. Except when I bought an Edirol keyboard.....
My is also set up for music (and a few games) only. No wireless, and have removed much of the crapware.
Meaning, it's fully possible for someone to buy one of these and not getting them to work on THEIR machine...

I love mine. The preamps are strong and clear with an accurate representation. I realize it's not top of the line, but it's great for the price. I've never had compatibility issues with it. I just installed the software, plugged it in, turned the audio to ASIO on Sonar, and it synched right up.
