Bought the unit, loaded the drivers and it sync'ed, loaded cubase, then plugged a guitar straight in, no level on the unit, and no level in the software, then plugged in a dynamic mic, same thing. It is being shipped back now, a new one coming my way. If the new one is bum, I'll be going another route, maybe MOTU w/ it's 192K.

I just bought this neat piece of equipment. Haven't plugged it in yet though. thesilentdrummer, my question is, since its recording straight from the instrument such as the guitar, do i need a soundproof room? i know the mics for the drums will need some quiet space. only makes sense.

Simple Answer: No. You don't need a good room for plugging directly in. Better Answer: Each channel has combo inputs: XLR and 1/4". There are two types of 1/4" inputs on the FireStudio Project: Instrument Level (Channels 1 and 2) and Line Level (Channels 3-8). Instrument level concerns passive (pretty much every) guitar and pass pickups. Line level is everything else, including instruments with active pickups (these have a battery or some other power source) and keyboards. The difference in the channels in preamp strength. When you plug your guitar into the FireStudio, it's only picking up signal through the pickups on the guitar. This does bring up the issue of sound quality: if possible, it is usually suggested to mic the guitar amp. This produces a more "real" sound. However, plugging directly in (direct insert/input, or DI), is becoming more "acceptable" with new amp simulators. Hope this helps. |

that's great thanks! would you say that when recording a band, they can bring in their own instruments and speakers or should i have my own set of atleast the speakers and amps? i feel this would give the band a more original sound. any suggestions?
