GearBox is a very very good piece of software. It's kind of like the PODs in a way, though - half the models are good, the rest, well, suck. However, the flexibility you get from the modeling engine is great, and you can get some pretty awesome sounds out of this little thing. It certainly takes the hassle out of micing a guitar amp, and worrying about phase issues, placement, everything like that.

It's really great for recordings where you just want to get something decent sounding down, and later on you can do your real takes. The SPDIF out goes straight into my US-1641 audio interface and makes sending audio from it a breeze.

TAKE NOTE THAT IT CAN ONLY SEND 2 TRACKS SIMULTANEOUSLY THROUGH USB. This was a severe disappointment at the time.

Windows XP drivers are stable, Gearbox is nice, quick, and intuitive, and while the actual thing weighs as much as an empty soda can it's capable of taking a beating. Idiot bands that I've recorded have had the pleasure of tripping over the instrument cable, causing it to go flying off of the desk at top speed because of the light weight, and it's never dropped out on me once.

If you're new to recording, this, or the UX2 is a great way to start. I hate the 2-track limitation, but for the price, this was great.

However, if you're experienced, you're going to want something bigger than this. This will not take care of all your needs, but it will help you dish out the toughest of them.

The expansion packs are too expensive though. However, they just lowered the prices, so I may have to check those out. Take note that those packs are hardcoded into your TonePort, so you can take them wherever you go with the TonePort.

its great for a budget and beginner like me. Easier

I think most of the sound quality is from POD.

I have the ux2. While it has it's input limitations, it's great for the beginner, or someone who needs a no fuss setup for recording demos. Like already said its lightweight and tough. Setup time is 5-10 minutes so it's great in that sense.

The ux2 comes with 2 +48v phantom powered xlr inputs and 2 standard jack inputs. Only 2 can be used at a time.

The gearbox software is impressive. I personally think it's up there with all the other modelling software I have ever tried. I'ts a shame they are charging so much for it to be VST enabled, that should have been included.

The gearbox software also comes with some pretty decent vocal pre-amp models too, once again making for a light setup.

While ableton live isn't a bad product in itself, ableton lite is pretty lame, having only a 4 track limitation, would have been good to see something a little more useful, to better compete with other like products which are offering better DAW's with their product.

Never had a problem.

I think this product fills an important place in the market at a very competitive price.

With it's great features, ease of use and value for money, I would say this is one of the better hardware,/software packages available for the beginner, Or those looking to record decent quality demos on the fly.

I heard this interface doesn't have phantom power. Has anyone found that to be a drawback in using it?
